Mapping solutions are an essential part of any GPS based tracking solution. Mapping can be done for free using online mapping services such as Google Earth or with a web based subscription service that will provide real time location and historical tracking information.
To use free mapping with a Personal Tracker such as the Teltonika GH1201 you would simply send an SMS message to the tracker, it would respond with the GPS Co-Ordinates and you enter these into Google Earth and it will provide a map or ariel photo of the trackers current location. The only cost associated with this type of solution is the SMS charge, There will be the cost of Two SMS messages for each location fix, one from the mobile phone sending the request and the other from the SIM card in the personal tracker that sends the Co-Ordinates back to the mobile phone making the request.
For subscription based services, the personal tracker will use GPRS data services to locate with a central server to upload the co-ordinates on a regular basis and this information can be viewed on any web broswer. The advantage of this type of service is that is is usually provided for a fixed low cost monthly subscription for unlimited tracking.
Both methods of retriving the location data are secure as the personal tracker can be programmed by the owner to only accespt requests and calls from specific telephone numbers or IP addresses.
